Beer

Beer and Fishing go together like trout and lemon. Most fishermen know that beer is almost as important as their rod. For those long, hot days out on the lake, those cold frigid wind-swept afternoons, or any day that ends in "Y" here is a list of recommendations to keep you hydrated during your fishing experience. With one of these brews at your side, you are sure to have a good time.
Fireman's Brewnette Ale
Even though we are still in the heats of summer, this darker ale is refreshing and substantial. Hints of chocolate, coffee and hazelnuts will take your mind away from the broken A/C and the on-coming electric bills. Whether served in a chilled glass, or straight from the bottle, this Brewnette Brown Ale delivers big taste with each sip. While your steak is sizzling on the grill, pop the top of one, or two of these
Red Car Brewery South Loop Porter
This deep, dark porter comes to us from a small brewery in Torrance, CA. Its rich roasted flavor stems from robust malts used to create this delicious libation. Crack one of these open when the night starts to fall after a long day fly fishing. As the shadows start to grow this beer, with its 7% alcohol, will do its job to keep you warm.
Mammoth Brewing Co.
Double Nut Brown Ale
This amazingly tasty Brown Ale offers a deep, chocolaty flavors with hints of toasted hops and toffee. This is a slow sipping beer that demands to be served chilled and enjoyed under a star speckled sky, or just by yourself where you don't have to share it with anyone else.
Mammoth Brewing Co. 395 I.P.A.
Now I am not one for I.P.A.'s, say what you will, but I have not had many that I enjoy, this however is an exception. Brewed with an UnGodly amount of hops and balanced with Wild Sage picked straight from the sides of Highway 395, this stunningly easy drinking beer has hints of honeyed hops, sage and the smell of Indian Paintbrush on your hands. Yeah, I went there. Go and buy a bottle and tell me if I am wrong.
Big Sky Brewing Co.
Trout Slayer
This wheat ale that should be in every fisherman's tackle box, is not only well balanced with caramel tones and a slight bitterness, but also evokes of being in the wilderness of Montana with a trout dancing on the end of the line.
Big Sky Brewing Co.
Moose Drool
A brown ale with a name that begs to be tried. Don't let the name scare you off, this malty beer is brewed with four different hops to give a smooth, coffee texture that sometimes, and I mean only sometimes, goes down a little too smoothly. By the time you have taken your third "sip" the beer is gone. Hide this one away from everyone else on the river/lake/boat/home/
anywhere
Sam Adam's Summer Ale
Crisp, light and refreshing, this wheat ale has overtones of citrus, orange peel and zesty spices. When the sun is beating down and the fish have all swum into the cool depths of the lake, sit back tilt your hat forward and pop the top of this tasty summer libation.
Blue Moon Belgian White
This robust white ale is done in the Belgian style, but with more citrus and spice. Now if I could have a nice butter braised trout with a icy Blue Moon I would be a happy man, especially if I caught the fish myself and some little kid didn't limit out and give me one of his. Ah, but no matter. When the sun peaks, find a nice shady spot and pull one of these from the ice box and enjoy.
New Belgium Brewing Co.
Mighty Arrow I.P.A.
This heavily hopped I.P.A. is balanced out by the deep malt base. Not only is this beer tasty, refreshing and enjoyable down to the last gulp, but it is done in honor of one of the employee's dogs that use to run (literally) the New Belgium Brewing Co. With other offerings like Fat Tire, Skinny Dip and Two below, I'd have to say Arrow did a great job.
Lagunitas Brewing Co.
Imperial Red
Heavy spice and rich malt flavors dominate this beer. Sit back and smell your fish cooking on the open fire. Relax and take a sip of the deep amber ale. Let out at long awaited sigh of relief. Ahhh... Life is good. Now if you could only figure out where that creek empties into so you can find your cell phone tomorrow.
Karl Strauss Brewing Co.
Red Trolley Ale
A San Diego favorite, this caramel colored ale gets its rich flavor from the caramelized malts and its zippy finish from the half ton of hops. So if you're looking for a full bodied beer to go along with your full bodied fish, this is a perfect match.
Indian Wells

Lobotomy Bock
On the sixth day after God had made me an unlucky fisherman, he took what was left of unused coffee, alcohol and toffee and threw them in a large pot to ferment. What came out, just in time for Him to help part the Red Sea, was this extra thick Bock. If you enjoy deep, robust, rich and creamy beers, this one is right up your alley. Find a nice comfy chair, plan the quickest route to your sleeping bag and sip the heavenly harmony of this dark beer.
